So, one of the reasons we began this blog is because I desire to build our family and to help encourage other families.
In the journey of building your family, we have had so many amazing people to mentor us. I could not have asked for better examples than the pattern that my parents and grandparents have set before me. All the while, I am still growing every day in the journey of building our family. I desire to be all that God wants me to be. I love Psalms 127 and 128, and often meditate on the verses in those chapters. Psalms 128:3 says, “Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house; thy children like olive plants round about thy table.”
When I first began having children, I would meditate on Proverbs 31 often. I wanted to be that virtuous wife who just seemed to get everything done.
Her house was in order, she had multiple businesses, her husband was a leader in the land, her family looked and dressed nice, she had healthy meals on the table, she could burn both ends of the clock, etc… I would become so aggravated as a new mom, and thought how can I ever measure up to this, with the constant picking up after toddlers, fighting the rat race of life, and keeping everything else done? I know many young mothers can become easily discouraged, and wonder if they are making a difference as they fold loads of laundry and raise babies.
I know it is not possible for everyone to stay home while their children are babies, but I am thankful my husband made it possible for me to stay home with my babies for the first ten years of our marriage. I discovered about the Proverbs 31 woman that as she was busy working her goal in mind was this, “She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.” What I was missing while reading this chapter is this one verse. She was meeting the needs of her own personal household.
Everyone has a different household with different needs and requirements.
My job is to find out what my family needs, and to the best of my ability with the Lord’s help, meet those needs. We cannot and must not compare our homes and our productivity with anyone else. Now, I love having other women to look to as a pattern for challenge or for wisdom in some of my personal weaknesses and struggles; on the other hand, I am not managing my home in competition with anyone else except for myself.
Every day I want to be a little better for my family. I want to be a little stronger, I want to be a little more sweet and patient, and I want to look for ways to show my children that I am listening to them and care about what bothers them. We cannot afford to become bogged down with the hype of social media, and compare ourselves to what everyone else is accomplishing. God’s will for me as a wife and a mother is to meet the needs of husband and children, and everything else comes next.
⇒Always look for ways to cultivate beauty and joy in your OWN life. You cannot expect people to make you happy. You must ground yourself in the true joy, love, and strength that the Lord has to offer. If you are always looking to be fulfilled by others, you will always find your tank empty; yet, if you are totally filled by the Lord, you will have enough to give others, and you will be satisfied in return.⇐
I ask my husband periodically what he thinks my priorities should be (I can’t tell you that;)), and I work to make sure all those things are in balance. So, let me encourage you, if you are beating yourself up because you feel like you don’t measure up, remember none of us do. What inspires me to continue to grow is the weaknesses in my own life. I do not ever want to be a hindrance to what God wants to do in the lives of my family. Always remember this,
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee:
for my strength is made perfect in weakness.
Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities,
that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities,
in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
(II Corinthians 12:9-10)
Regardless of the load that you are carrying, Christ is strong enough to help you carry it.
Christ is powerful enough to enable you to do what He has called you to do.
I hope this thought has helped to encourage you in your journey of building your family. January 18, 2019 at 10:01 pmSo enjoyed your story. I’ve already raised my family and now enjoying grandchildren, but your story has helped me too! Trusting in the Lord is the key, but sometimes we forget when we get wrapped up in our own little world.
Thanks,
Cynthia
