Dealing with Hurt- Part II

Examining a Wounded Heart-

What other people do can hurt us and can cut deep to the heart. Maybe a spouse is unfaithful in marriage or does something to cause the hurt. There is nothing that can hurt like a wounded heart. When you are lying in bed at night and cannot go to sleep, you may think of how life used to be. You may be dwelling on how your dreams have been crushed. The Devil likes to play mind games with people. He will lie to you and tell you that all the hurts you have faced are all your fault. In reality, you may not have done anything to cause your hurts. Maybe a parent did something to tear your family apart. Maybe you are that teen looking up to the sky blaming yourself for all of the misfortune that you have faced. The truth is, these hurts are not your fault, but these are the exact thoughts that the Devil wants to put in your head. His ultimate goal is to destroy you!

Let me say this, there is nothing that you can read or hear that will take away the pain of what happened; nevertheless, over time you can and will heal. You must allow the Word of God to become part of your life. The Bible will give you love and counsel in dark times. Share your thoughts with a pastor or a friend. Allow someone to help you. I love what David says in Psalm 121:1,

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.”

What David is saying is that when there is no one else to help you, the truth is, there is someone there. He is the one who created the hills, He created the stars, He made the blue sky, and He even created the dark clouds. Many people either blame God or their self when they are hurting; when in reality, God is the One Who can bring true help and true healing. Isaiah 41:10 says,

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed;

for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee;

yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

The Lord is on our side and wants to help us, but we have to make sure that we stay right with him. If we have sin in our lives by harboring ill feelings in our heart and continuing a lack of forgiveness toward someone, we will never begin the process of healing our hurt! The question is how do you forgive or forget the hurt that we have faced from others? We will deal with this in Part III of Dealing with Hurt.
