I love every story in the Bible because every story was given for our learning.
I think we can learn much about how to handle the political and Spiritual mess our country is in from this wonderful story of the children of Israel.
I pray that this article will shed light on why Christians need to be involved in government.
I know you all probably know the story of the twelve men who were chosen to look at the land of Canaan, the land that God had promised to the children of Israel. Twelve men all saw the same thing.
Only two men chose to see the land with a positive outlook while the other ten spies chose to see the land with a negative outlook.
The report they brought back to Moses was of the grapes that were so large two men had to carry the cluster in between themselves on a staff. Not only did they bring back grapes to show Moses, but they showed him the pomegranates and the figs as well. They said, “Surely it (the land) floweth with milk and honey…” (Numbers 13:27) “Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.” (Numbers 13:28)
Because these men brought back an evil report, God killed them with a plague.
Caleb and Joshua chose to have a different outlook on what they saw from the land.
This is the way they replied to the evil report, “And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.” (Numbers 13:30)
I love the attitude that Caleb has here! Caleb believed that they could have that land because of the promises of God. They had seen God work for them before, why could they not see God do miracles now?
Nothing can hinder God’s work more than the sin of unbelief.
I believe this is one of the main issues of our country today. Why is that, you say? I believe this to be because God leaves the condition of a nation in the hand of His people.
Acts 10:35- But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
Proverbs 14:34- Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
II Chronicles 7:14- If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
God’s Word is very clear in how to have revival and see a nation changed.
I see so many people confuse this principle.
Every change that God has brought in a nation has taken place by faith and action. God always uses people to bring about change.
God used Esther to change policy to see an entire nation saved from a hateful, racist ruler. God used King David in His political position to lead his people into a Spiritual revival as well as keeping them safe.
The problem comes when God’s people do not claim their responsibility.
When God created the heavens and the earth this is the command He gave to man, “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
God established the home, government, and the church.
In I Corinthians 12:28, God lists governments as one of the gifts to the church. The separation of the church and state that is in our Constitution is meant to keep the government from making laws that prohibit our Spiritual liberty; yet, it was never meant to keep Christians out of the political arena. Many of our American forefathers were preachers, and the preachers counseled them as they made the laws of the land.
One of the main reason America is having issues is because Christians have stepped away from the office of Government.
I know this is not a popular topic; nevertheless it is Biblical and historically proven to work!
Man’s responsibility is to provide for his family this does not negate his service to his God and his country.
Some people believe that if they simply vote and pay taxes, they are doing their duty as an American citizen.
I am not saying that it is God’s will for everyone to be involved politically.
We all have different roles that will help reach the world with the gospel of Christ. Everyone is not called to be a pastor; some are called to be missionaries to foreign countries. Some are called into evangelism.
There are many ways to serve. I believe David did both.
David served God in church, “For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” (Psalms 84:10) David also served his country by keeping it safe from the Philistines. He also influenced the next generation by teaching his son how to be a wise ruler.
You may be reading this article and think, “I have never looked at politics in this light.” Hopefully and prayerfully, someone will read this article and begin to pray about what you can do politically to help take dominion back over our great nation!
America is the greatest nation on earth!
The leftist ideas that are flooding our country today have brought so many other countries into bondage.
Socialism/Communism simply resembles a nation that has taken God out of the equation.
May we be a nation that seeks God once again first in everything we do! Would to God that His people would cry out in faith that God can change our nation if we will just be willing to put some feet on our prayers.
“Alexis de Tocqueville demonstrated that socialism was a rejection of the revolutionary ideals that birthed modern France. In the same way, socialism in America would be a departure – not a shift to the left, but an abandonment – of the bedrock of American republicanism.”*
May we return to the same great ideas that made our nation the greatest nation on earth! Let us not forget our responsibilities as Christians to take care of our families, our churches, and our country!
