So, last week we finished an incredible week of the Deep South Youth Conference. Our theme this year was Mission Possible. Even though this conference is geared towards young people, God always speaks to my husband and me.
I spoke to the teen girls in my Sunday school class on this topic of seeing God do the impossible. As I think about our country, my heart is so burdened. From 1973 through 2011 nearly 53 million legal abortions have taken place in America.I hope that we have not become complacent in the fact that America is allowing millions of babies to be murdered.
I believe whole-heartedly that just one person can make a difference in our world.
You do not have to be perfect to be used by God, but you have to be willing to put all your trust in a God who can.
So, what keeps us from seeing God do the impossible (possible)?
I was reading in Joshua, the recording of the children of Israel after they had wondered in the wilderness. God had a place for them to go possess.
They just had to believe and go do what God wanted them to go do. In Joshua chapter 1, Joshua was commissioned. In chapter 2, Joshua sent two men to spy out Jericho. I am sure you have heard the story of how they went in to the house of Rahab the harlot. She hid the two spies in her home while the men of the city were hunting for them.
While I was reading this story again after the many times I have read it, I asked the Lord, “Why did you lead the spies Rahab’s way?”
I’m sure there were a lot of places these two men could have gone in the city to spy it out. I am sure there could have been other people the Lord could have used to show kindness to these two Godly men. So, why did the Lord use Rahab who was a prostitute by trade?
If you read Joshua 2:8-11 it says,
“And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;
And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord you God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.”KJV BIBLE
Wow, I read this, and then I had the answer to my questions!
Rahab did not believe in God once she met the men who were come to spy out the land to destroy it;
she believed in God before.
She, as well as many others had been hearing about all these things that God had been doing, but Rahab simply chose to believe that their God was the true God.
I believe God sent the two spies Rahab’s way, because God looked down from Heaven, and didn’t necessarily see a perfect woman, but He saw a woman that simply put her faith in a God who could work miracles.
Not only did Rahab’s faith save her, but her faith saved her entire family. A famous preacher once said this about faith, “Faith is putting your hands of faith in God’s hand of grace.”
“A lack of faith is not weakness, it is wickedness.”
The greatest sin the children of Israel were guilty of time and time again was the sin of unbelief.
Today, we live in a country where we have been blessed beyond measure.
I am so thankful for my blessings, but I do not want to so enjoy my blessings that I do not step out of my comfort zone in faith to see God work through me just like He did in the stories of the people from the Bible.
God used one woman, Esther, to save a nation.
He also used another woman, Rahab, to save an entire family in a city that was going to be destroyed. What would God do with you, if you just surrendered to His will?
I have seen God take care of my family and me on the mission field. One thing I know is that there is no happier, safer, and peaceful place than in the center of God’s will. So, what ingredients do you need to see God do the impossible? I am sure there are many, but I will just choose the ones from this story.
Joshua 1:6, “Be strong and of good courage:”
Joshua 1:7, “Only be thou strong and very courageous,”
Joshua 1:9, “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest.”
Joshua 1:18, “only be strong and of a good courage.”KJV BIBLE
What strengthens me is this, even though at my best I fail miserably, I serve a God Who says He will be with me.
I serve a God Who has already won the battle. He wants to use you and me. We must strengthen ourselves in the fact that He is the God Who can still do the impossible, and we must take courage by walking by faith in the truth of His Word.
The following are a few questions to ask yourself:
- Have you asked God to use you personally?
- Have you asked God to save America?
- Have you prayed for our political leaders and the ones who serve our country?
- Have you asked God to forgive our nation for killing babies?
- Have you prayed that God will keep you from complacency?
- Are you okay with being average or do you want to do the impossible?
- Have you asked God to give you a fresh vision for what He can do through you?
