Racism, A Topic Most Will Not Touch

When you look at the world we can definitely agree that we have major issues with racism!

We can point our fingers or blame the issues of today on other people or different times of history. I do believe emphatically that as a society we have issues, but I have always believed and still do that Jesus Christ is the answer!

I want to deal with the subject of “Racism”!

Do we have this problem in today’s America? Do we have this problem in our society? Is this an issue in churches still?

Unfortunately, I believe that the answer is YES! We still have these issues today in our nation. When one speaks of racism, we must understand that everyone sees racism differently. Everyone reacts to racism differently. The way that white people see racism is different than how black people see racism. How black people see racism is differently than how white people see racism.

It is safe to say that black people have been done very wrong in our nation,

especially in early America and different parts of history! I would hope that this problem has reversed and will continue to subside!

  • Pointing out racism

When you treat someone differently because of the color of their skin, this is racism!

When you speak to someone differently because of the color of their skin, this is racism! When you will not let people in your church because of the color of their skin, this is most definitely racism! When you will not let people in your restaurant because of the color of their skin, this is racism! When the only reason you have for discriminating against an individual is the color of his or her skin, this is racism! Racism is happening all over our nation!

My Bible tells me in I John 4:20, “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?”

KJV

How can you say you love God when you treat people differently because of the color of their skin?

This is wicked and a sin against God! One thing we need to be careful about is saying things or writing things that come across as racist to any other group of people! We will say, (and I’m guilty) “Well, I didn’t mean it that way.” This is the time to listen to our friends and understand that people see racism differently!

We need to understand that white people weren’t the ones that were slaves in this nation.

Black people will see things differently! I go to church with some of the best Christians in America who happen to be black. Some of them have rebuked me because of maybe things I have said or not understood properly. Although I did not mean for it to come across as racist, to them it was racist!

That’s when this verse comes to mind 1 Corinthians 8:13, “Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.” I have heard people say, “Well, they just need to get over it!” That is the wrong answer! I’m not saying a person should compromise his values or principles, but I am saying that we need to be careful in our words and actions.

We should not offend a brother or sister in Christ over something that is unnecessary!

Jokes, certain words, songs- I could go on and on mentioning things that are neither unnecessary nor Christ-like. Whether these things be words or songs, we should not participate in them.

I am not perfect, and I am asking God for His help guiding me in this area! I have recently asked my friends if they were to see something in my life to be offensive, let me know! Do not hesitate to text me or call me!

We as Christians should be leading the fight against racism.

There are many who are, and that’s a great thing! Are you putting water on the fire or are you fanning the flames of racism? We as Christians should be putting the water on the flames!
